DriftWater Fishing, Salmon River, Pulaski, NY

Welcome Anglers

We're into a great winter Steelhead season in Upstate NY on the Salmon River. It has been a late start, and the weather and fishing have been great. However the good weather will not last much longer as the cold weather is starting to settle in. Although it's cold, the big steelhead will start coming in, and you will have a great chance for a true trophy.

Let me interject that this is not time of year for the weak of heart, or for those who cannot handle the cold well. If you are planning a winter trip you need to be prepared. For you gear heads, this is your time to shine. You should dress with as many layers as comfortable and either waders or water/weather proof gear. Good headgear and fingerless gloves are a must and will help keep dexterity issues to a minimum. The proper gear will keep you comfortable and warm in these harsh conditions. Remember you can always shed layers if you get too warm, but warming up is hard if you are underdressed. Both boats have good heaters to warm and dry your fingers and hands, but don't count on them for much more.

All trips are subject to weather. This is the land of lake effect snow, and we can get two or more feet of snow in just a few hours. Because of this we always keep an eye on the ten-day forecast to help predict if we can fish on your day. My personal rule is if the high temps of the day are twenty degrees or under we will cancel the trip. If you have ever tried to hook a fish with a hook incased in an ice cube, you will understand.

However, there is an upside to winter fishing. If you have fished on the Salmon River then you know the crowds can be a pain and finding a spot is challenging. This doesn't seem to be an issue in the colder months. Most of the time the river is yours for the day, and it can be very enjoyable and productive if you come prepared.

Safety is our number one goal at DriftWater fishing. Please be safe out there in these cold temps. Always be prepared, and let someone know if you will be out on the river. DriftWater Fishing greatly appreciates the trust you place in us when you use our services. We are committed to bringing you the best in drift boat fishing.

We will be on the river all winter long, so when cabin fever sets in check our fishing calendar for dates and give us a call at 315-529-4204.

Keep Fishing
